.nl domain names

How does a trade take place for a .nl domain?

Trading a .nl domain means that the domain is getting a new owner.

This is how it works:

  • Check whether the current registrant mail address is still in use

You can check this with the current registrar. It is important to be able to access that mail address in order to complete the trade later on.

  • Unlock the domain

A domain that is locked (using a domain/registrar lock) cannot change it's contact info or be transferred. Unlock the domain at the current registrar. After completing the transfer you can reactivate the lock with the new registrar.

  • Request the transfercode

You can request the transfercode at the current registrar. This will be sent to the registrant's mail address.

  • Give the transfercode to the new registrar

In order to start the transfer the new registrar will need the transfercode. You can send this to them by mailing their support.

You can also start the transfer yourself with this code through most registrar's websites.

  • The actual trade.

You or the new registrar start the new transfer. Is the transfercode correct? Then the transfer will immediately be completed.

The trade of a .nl domain can take up to a few hours.
