What is caching and how do i use it?

Caching is a smart technology that makes your website run faster by temporarily saving data of your site that is often used in a specific piece of memory.

Browser caching

If you surf to a website, your browser wil download a lot of that website's content and save it to the browsercache. Which is a temporary repository for data that you might likely check again later.

If you went to the same website a second time, then your browser will be able to retrieve all necessary data from the cache without downloading the data a second time. This makes websites load and run a lot faster.

Server caching

With server caching there is a temporary repository in-between your browser and the webserver on which the website is located. A copy of a full webpage gets stored in the server cache, that way your browser can instantly retrieve the page with full functionality.

Because the website is already ready to go, the webserver no longer has to search for the website and puzzle the content together. This way you get to see the fully functional website appear a lot faster.

Varnish and Redis

Nomeo offers 2 free caching-solutions:

  • Varnish
  • Redis

You can enable either one or both cachingtechnologies using our control panel.

  • Click on 'Hosting Packages'
  • Choose the package on which you would like to use caching
  • Go to the tab 'Website' and choose the subtab 'Advanced'
  • Scroll down to find the switches
  • Enable to switch next to Varnish and/or Redis
