What requirements must a domain name meet?
A domain name must meet a few requirements.
The following rules apply to all domain names:
- The domain name must be between 2 and 64 characters long.
- The domain name must not already be registered by someone else.
- The domain name may not be offensive.
- The domain name may not contain a trademark or any other protected name.
Some domain extensions have additional requirements, such as the location or niche of your business. For example, to register a .eu domain, you must be established within the European Union.
